Screw It, Let’s Go! A One-Night Getaway to Royal Park Hotel

Recently, my wife and I decided we needed a break—just a quick escape to clear our heads and reclaim some sanity after being cooped up all winter. So, we packed an overnight bag and headed to the Royal Park Hotel for one of our signature "one-night getaways."
A big indicator of whether we truly enjoy a place is if we return. With so many options out there, we typically prefer to explore new places rather than revisit the same spots. So, the fact that we made our way back to the Royal Park Hotel says a lot about how much we like it.
Location & Arrival
The hotel is in a prime spot—just a stone’s throw from downtown Rochester, which is packed with great restaurants, bars, and shops. If you’re in the mood for a more urban experience, downtown Detroit is only about a 30-minute drive away.
Upon arrival, you have the choice of valet parking or self-parking, and there are plenty of spaces available if you’d rather park yourself. Check-in is always a smooth experience here. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and to our delight, they even offered us a complimentary cocktail—a small but appreciated touch that set the tone for a relaxing stay.
The Room & Hotel Experience
The Royal Park Hotel is currently undergoing some renovations, and during our stay in March 2025, one entire floor was closed for remodeling. We’re eager to see what upgrades they’ll unveil, but despite the ongoing work, we were pleasantly surprised that we didn’t hear a single bang, clang, or drill. No construction noise? That’s a win!
Our room was beautiful, featuring high ceilings, elegant decor, and all the amenities you’d expect from a high-end hotel. The king-sized bed was plush and comfortable, providing the kind of restful sleep we don’t often get at home. (More on that in a second!) The room was also spotless, which is always a must for us.
The “One-Night Getaway” Tradition
For the past couple of years, my wife and I have been taking spontaneous one-night getaways as a way to escape the daily grind, relieve stress, and, let’s be honest, sleep on a bed that isn’t ours. You see, our mattress at home is over 25 years old, and it’s so uncomfortable that waking up sore has become the norm. Sure, buying a new mattress would be the logical (and cheaper) solution, but there’s something thrilling about seeing a place online and saying, “Screw it, let’s go!”
Dining at Park 600
On this visit, we decided to skip room service and try the in-house restaurant, Park 600. According to Google reviews, it holds a solid 4 out of 5 stars, and that rating seems fair to us.
Since we arrived just before the dinner rush (and it was a Wednesday), we didn’t have to worry about crowds. The atmosphere was relaxed, and we were happy to see that our casual jeans-and-hoodie attire fit right in with the other diners—who were mostly hanging out at the bar.
The restaurant itself was clean, inviting, and had a friendly staff. One big plus? We got to take advantage of their Happy Hour specials, which run from Sunday through Thursday, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. The menu leans toward the pricier side, and while the food was enjoyable, we both agreed that next time, we’ll probably venture out to try another restaurant in downtown Rochester for a more budget-friendly option. That said, it’s incredibly convenient to have a quality restaurant right inside the hotel when you just want to eat and crash afterward.
Final Thoughts
Our one-night getaway at the Royal Park Hotel was exactly what we needed—an effortless escape with a cozy, luxurious vibe. Whether you’re looking for a romantic night away, a staycation, or a comfortable place to stay while exploring Rochester, we highly recommend giving it a try.
Would we return? Considering we already have—absolutely!
